BERLIN, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Leverkusen cruised to a 4-0 triumph over Donetsk to secure the second victory at the third match in the Champions League group stage on Wednesday.
It's Leverkusen's eighth consecutive home win in the Champions League as the hosts marked three second-half goals to inflict Donetsk the first loss in group A.
The "Werkself" broke the deadlock through Stefan Kieing, whose header overcame the visitors' goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov at the 23rd minute.
The hosts remained in control of the match but allowed Donetsk to get back into the game owing to the lack of urgency in front of Pyatov's goal.
Things stayed as they were at the second half, as Shakhtar were unable to threat Leverkusen goalie Bernd Leno. However, Dario Srna invited the hosts to double the scores owing to his foul play inside the box. Simon Rolfes stepped up and slotted home into the top right corner four minutes into the second half.
Leverkusen killed the game eight minutes later when Sidney Sam exploited a pass into path to net the third goal of the evening before Kieing wrapped up his brace following a fumble by Pyatov at the 72nd minute.
"It was a deserved win. We are now pleased that we have six points," Leverkusen director of sport Rudi Voeller said.
Manchester United lead group A followed by Leverkusen, Donetsk and Real Sociedad.
