ROME, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Italy defender Christian Maggio will receive a knee surgery after picking up a meniscus injury, Napoli revealed on Monday.

The Italian international was checked by specialist professor Mariani at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome on Monday, and was advised to have an operation to fix the problem.

Napoli expect him to return to action when Serie A resumes at the eighth round after the international break.

Maggio, born in 1982, has featured in two League games and one Champions League tie so far this term.
