MINSK, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Sergei Khizhnichenko scored the only goal of the match to lead Shakhter of Kazakhstan to a 1-0 win over BATE Borisov of Belarus in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the 2013-14 UEFA Champions League on Tuesday in Borisov, Belarus.

In the first half BATE attacked more and had some good moments for a goal, but Shakhter's goalkeeper Alexander Mokin showed a very brilliant game. Shakhter mostly played on the counterattack.

But early in the second half Sergei Khizhnichenko managed to score. After that BATE tried in every way to restore the balance, but Shakhter managed to survive and keep the winning score.

The second match between the two teams will be held on July 23 in Karaganda.
