PARIS, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Japan's Ai Fukuhara lost her third and final events of women's doubles to have her journey at the World Championships finished here on Friday.
The Japanese star and Sayaka Hirano were defeated by Singaporean tandem Feng Tianwei/Yu Mengyu 7-11, 6-11, 3-11, 8-11 in a quarterfinal match.
Fukuhara had lost in the first round of singles and second round of mixed doubles.
The 24-year-old, who led Japan to the team silver medal at last year's London Olympics, made her world championships debut here 10 years ago at the age of 14 and entered the quarterfinals in the singles event.
Playing table tennis in China from a very young age, Fukuhara can speak fluent mandarin Chinese and has greater popularity in China than most other table tennis internationals.
