ANKARA, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Fenerbahce clinched Turkish women's Basketball League title for the eighth time in a row by defeating arch-rival Galatasaray on Sunday night, local media reported Monday.
The Turkish women basketball giant, led by U.S. star Cappie Pondexter's 27 points, won 72-62 in the decisive game 5 at their home Ulker Sports Arena to clinch the series 3-2.
Ivana Matovic assisted Pondexter with 20 points and Esmeral Tuncluer added 11 points for the hosts. Ann Wauters led Galatasaray with 25 points, while Lindsey Harding poured in 16 points.
With the championship, Fenerbahce not only drew level with Galatasaray in terms of the number of women's basketball titles of 11, but also drew within one title of Galatasaray'record of nine straight championships.
