RIO DE JANEIRO, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Former Manchester City midfielder Elano said Saturday he remained hopeful of a recall to Brazil's national team ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
The 31-year-old has not represented his country since the 2011 Copa America due to a combination of injuries and inconsistent form.
He returned from a month on the sidelines last Wednesday with an impressive second-half cameo in Gremio's 2-1 Copa Libertadores round of 16 first leg victory over Independiente Santa Fe.
"I won't give up on a return to the national team," Elano told Zero Hora.
"I think the squad is still open. I just have to keep doing my job and prove my worth on the pitch."
Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari will announce his squad for June's FIFA Confederations Cup on May 14.
