RIO DE JANEIRO, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Philadelphia Union and United States international winger Freddy Adu is set join Bahia in exchange for 2002 World Cup winning midfielder Kleberson, the Brazilian top-flight club said Tuesday.
Negotiations for an one-year loan deal are at an advanced stage and Bahia officials say a move could be confirmed by the end of the week.
Adu's monthly wage demands are said to be around 35,000 US dollars, about half Kleberson's current salary.
"The first point is the financial aspect because he his going to cost a lot less," Bahia football director Paulo Angioni said.
"And the other aspect is that he is known all around the world which will guarantee the publicity for Bahia. We see the US as a future market and for that reason the signing of Freddy Adu would be a very good deal for us," he said.
Former Manchester United holding midfielder Kleberson joined Bahia last year after a five-year spell with Flamengo.
