TOKYO, March 3 (Xinhua) -- Cuba defeated Brazil on Sunday in the first round of the 3rd World Baseball Classic in Fukuoka, both teams from Group A which also includes Japan and China.

Cuba won 5-2 against Brazil, dispelling the worry among Cuban fans who considered Brazilians to be a strong team.

Cuba will take on China on Monday.
