BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- David Beckham is likely to become the "international ambassador" for the coming 2013 Chinese Super League (CSL), a source told Xinhua on Wednesday.
Zhu Qilin, boss of the CSL company, said that it is almost certain that the 37-year-old star will be the CSL international ambassador, but some procedures still need to be done.
Zhu denied that Beckham will attend the opening ceremony of the new season CSL. "We planned to invite him, but as he will be busy preparing for the European Champions League at the time, so I don't think he can come."
The former England captain is now under a five-month contract with French Ligue 1 club Paris St. Germain, which is scheduled to play Valencia in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 on March 7. The CSL opens on March 8.
