MELBOURNE, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Defending champion Novak Djokovic bounced back from a marathon five-set fourth-round match just 48 hours earlier as he reached the Australian Open semifinals here on Tuesday after beating Czech Tomas Berdych 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
The Serbian world No. 1 showed little rustiness from that late finish to complete the quarterfinal fixtures.
The two-time defending champion Djokovic won his 19th consecutive win at the Melbourne Park. He easily claimed the opening set, losing one game, in 29 minutes.
Berdych broke the Serb in the opening game of the second set and went on to level the match by taking the second set.
But Djokovic took everything under control from then on. He finished with six breaks and hit 47 winners with just 25 unforced errors.
"It was a great performance. I was hoping to have a shorter match, whoever won tonight, as long as it didn't go over five hours," Djokovic joked.
The victory clinched Djokovic's 11th consecutive Grand Slam semifinals. He will play against Spaniard David Ferrer in the semifinal.
