DAKAR, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Senegalese football federation president Augustin Senghor announced Wednesday that French veteran Alain Giresse has been named the new coach of Senegal's national football team.

The Frenchman signed a two-year deal which will take him through the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2015 African Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The former coach of Senegal, Joseph Koto, was fired in October due to the team's poor results.
