PANAMA CITY, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Kenya'a man athlete Paul Gatheru Wachira Sunday won the Panama Canal International Marathon with a time of 02:28:40.
Wachira left behind the Ecuadorian runners Manuel Canas at 02:29:50 and Luis German Guano at 02:32:45.
In the women's category, Dailyn Belmonte, from Cuba, was the winner with a time of 02:49:52, followed by Colombian Iglandini Gonzalez (03:16:02).
The women's third position was achieved by Panamanian Alicia Zorrilla, with a time of 03:18:09.
The race began in Figali's Convention Center in Calzada de Amador street, in front of the Panama Canal's outflow towards the Pacific Ocean, passed through the Bridge of the Americas, which links Panama's capital city with the country's western sector, and later it crossed other strategic points, such as the Panama Canal's Administration's facilities, the Assembly's viaduct towards the Coastal Belt, in the city's coastal way.
