BERLIN, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Vedad Ibisevic's winner was enough to ensure Stuttgart's second victory of the season while Nuremberg and Augsburg shared point following a goalless draw to close the eighth round in Bundesliga on Sunday.
It was a fast paced start as both sides were able to create their first chance minutes after the kickoff in front of 53,121 spectators at Imtech-Arena.
Hamburg's goalkeeper Rene Adler denied Martin Harnik the opener following a one on one situation with two minutes into the match. One minutes later Hamburg's Artjoms Rudnevs tested Stuttgart goalkeeper Sven Ulreich with a long-range effort.
As the match progressed the "Swabians" grasped the nettle to disrupt Hamburg's offensive efforts. Stuttgart controlled the proceedings on the pitch and was able to open the scoring with 30 minutes on the clock. Vedad Ibisevic exploited Martin Harnik's cross into the box to mark the deserved opener.
Hamburg responded with frenetic attacks but Sven Ulreich saved Rafael van der Vaart's shot on target whilst Milan Badelj effort rattled just the bar before the break.
At the second half Hamburg frenetically pressed for the equalizer but Stuttgart remained unimpressed and focused to record the second win of the season. Thus Stuttgart ended Hamburg's four match unbeaten run.
"The victory does us good. The team showed a sensational performance. We dominated Hamburg in all aspects," Stuttgart coach Bruno Labbadia said.
"We did not play well. Stuttgart was better today. They deserved to win," Hamburg's Rafael van der Vaart analyzed.
Elsewhere, at the Southern derby Nuremberg and Augsburg staged an uninspiring goalless draw.
