MOSCOW, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- The official slogan of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games was unveiled Tuesday in the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi, the host city of the games.

According to Dmitry Chernyshenko, head of the Games' steering committee, the slogan was "Hot. Cool. Yours."

"The word 'hot' mirrors the hot sports emotions and hints the climate in the games' subtropical venue. The word 'cool' reflects the season, as well as Russia's image in the world. 'Yours' means the Olympics is for everyone," Chernyshenko explained.

The slogan was revealed during a celebration marking the 500-day countdown of the Sochi Olympics. The games will be opened on Feb 7, 2014 and run until Feb. 23.

The Sochi Games will feature 98 medal events, which is 12 more than those of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.

The 500-day countdown was also celebrated in 17 cities throughout Russia, where various sporting and cultural events were taking place with participation of over 12,000 volunteers of the Sochi Games.
