LONDON, June 16 (Xinhua) -- China's Zheng Jie resumed her fine form to be in the last four of the Birmingham WTA grasscourt event on Saturday in a match held over from the previous day due to rain.
Zheng, ranked world number 32, took the upper hand in her victory over Italian fourth seed Roberta Vinci, winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.
Russia's Ekatarina Makarova is also through to the last four after dodging the showers to beat Chinese Taipei's Su-Wei Hsieh 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
But the downpour on Saturday forced other matches to be suspended.
Fifth seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia was leading Japanese Misaki Doi 2-0 when the rain forced the match to be called off.
Melanie Oudin led her American compatriot Irinia Falconi 6-4, 5-7, 1-0.
Organizers will have to try to squeeze two quarterfinals, semifinals and the final into Sunday.
