TBILISI, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Defending champions Georgia trounced visitors Portugal 32-7 in the 2012 European Nations Cup rugby first division on Saturday, after leading the first half with a 7-0 lead.
The Georgians, more than making good of their first loss to Spain two weeks ago in Madrid, made the most of their home advantage this time around by scoring four tries, three conversions and two penalties.
The Georgians, better known as the Lelos, have three more games to play in the single round-robin tourney which also includes Romania, Russia and Ukraine.
Georgia have won the European Nations Cup four times and they won last season's title by winning all their five games.
Last season's European Nations Cup first division pitted the same six nations.
The new head coach of the Lelos, Milton Haig, tried some new hands on Saturday with a broader game plan, encouraging the Georgian players to run the entire length and width of the pitch to pit a broader game system.
Georgia is next to play Russia in Tbilisi before travelling to Kiev in April to play Ukraine. The game between Georgia and Ukraine was postponed due to heavy snowfalls in the Ukrainian capital in early February.
