SANTIAGO, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chile's defender Marcos Gonzalez on Thursday travelled to Brazil to join the Rio de Janeiro based Flamengo on a transfer which will last four years.
Gonzalez, one of the stars of Universidad de Chile's team that has been two-time champion in 2011 local tournament and in South American Cup, is excited about his integration to the Brazilian team.
"I still can't imagine it quite well. Once I will be installed I will know how it is. I hope to find one of the better places to play soccer and I hope it will be fine," said Gonzalez in Santiago airport.
The Chilean soccer player said the details about his transfer are beginning to be clear and "now I will have medical examinations".
Coach Jorge Sampaoli, from Universidad de Chile, said he was very happy and has now the challenge to build again the team and become it a competitive as it was last year.
Gonzalez will be one alternative for Flamengo's coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo during the debut match in Brazilian tournament and in the first stage of 2012 Copa Libertadores against Bolivian Real Potosi.
