MADRID, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Madrid striker Kun Aguero on Wednesday repeated his desire to abandon the club before the start of next season.
Speaking to television station 'ESPN', Aguero insisted that he didn't want to continue playing his football at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.
Aguero said at the end of last season that he wanted to leave Atletico, who finished seventh in the BBVA Primera Liga last season, in order to progress in his career.
For the moment, despite interest in the player, who is currently playing for Argentina in the Copa America, no other club has moved in to pay his 45 million euros buyout clause. That had served to raise hopes at Atletico that the striker, who scored 20 league goals last season could be persuaded to stay.
Those hopes were raised further last week by declarations from Aguero's father that he would be playing his football at the Calderon again next season.
Now, however, the striker has spoken to dash those expectations.
"I spoke with the club. I published a communique and now my agents are negotiating my exit from the club," said Aguero, who has spent the past four seasons with Atletico.
"I don't know when that agreement will be reached, but I want to know when the Copa America finishes," he underlined.
