BUDAPEST, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The 220,000 dollars Poli-Farbe Budapest Grand Prix women's tennis tournament opened on Monday in Budapest, Hungary.
Alona Bondarenko of Ukraine, Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic, Olga Savchuk of Ukraine, Irina-Camilia Begu of Romania, Ajla Tomljanovic of Croatia and Annabel Medina Garrigues of Spain all won their first round matches.
In the only upset of the day, Savchuk knocked out the eighth seed Evgeniya Rodina of Russia, recovering from one set down to comfortably win in three sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. The third, fifth, and seventh seeds, Zakopalova, Medina Garrigues, and Begu respectively, all enjoyed straight set victories.
On Tuesday, the top two seeds Roberta Vinci and Sara Errani, both of Italy, enter the competition.
The WTA Tour outdoor clay court event, formerly known as the Gaz de France Grand Prix, has been held since 1993.
