MOSCOW, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The 2013 Summer Universiade will take place from July 6 to July 17 in Russian city Kazan, the Kazan 2013 Organizing Committee said on Monday.
Russian first deputy Prime Minister and the committee's chairman Igor Shuvalov announced the decision after the committee's visiting session in Kazan.
Soon, the committee will submit a report to the Federation International du Sport Universitaire (FISU) for the final approval of the date.
According to the committee, there are 26 events in the 2013 Summer Universiade with a total of 341 medals. Some 10,000 university students from dozens countries are expected to participated in the games.
During his visit to Kazan, Shuvalov has visited the construction site of the Kazan's new international airport, the Olympic Village and the future competitions venues.
Kazan, the regional capital of Russia's Tatarstan Republic, was the economic and cultural center in the middle reaches of the Volga river. The thousand-year city once bid for the 2011 Universiade, but lost to China's Shenzhen by four votes.
