PARIS, May 20 (Xinhua) -- World number 11 Andy Roddick of America pulled out of the French Open on Thursday due to a right shoulder injury, the Roland Garros organisers said in a statement.

Roddick, a former world number one and the 2003 US Open winner, had never got beyond the fourth round at the French Open.

He had been defeated in his opening matches at the claycourt Madrid and Rome Masters this month.
