WARSAW, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Some 3,000 volunteers for the EURO 2012 European Soccer Championship tournament will be recruited via a new website to be launched by event organizers in April, local media reported on Tuesday.
"We have just closed a tender for the preparation of the website which will serve not only for recruitment but also for the management of future volunteers. It will also be helpful during the training process," Waldemar Rembas, member of the team for volunteers of the PL. 2012 company, told the PAP news agency.
The recruitment of volunteers will start in October. A candidate for a volunteer must be at least 18 years old and speak English. Volunteers may come from all parts of Europe, the project is open to all, Rembas stressed.
A total of some 3000 volunteers will be needed for the time of the championships. Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan will each need some 600 volunteers. Warsaw will require over 1,000 volunteers.
The Euro 2012 soccer championship, hosted by Poland and Ukraine from June 8 to July 1, 2012, will take place in four Polish cities -- Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan.
