LUSAKA, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's female boxing icon, Esther Phiri on Saturday night defeated her opponent, Lely Luz Florez of Colombia, in the Zambian capital, Lusaka, unifying the Women's International Boxing Association (WIBA) and Women's International Boxing Organization (WIBO) Light Welterweight titles.
The two pugilists fought 10 rounds by 2 minutes in Mulungushi International Conference Center, where packed hundreds of supporters from both sides, and the 3 judges scored unanimously 90-97, 93-97 and 91-100 in favor of Esther Phiri.
In other matches prior to the WIBA/WIBO title fight, U.S based Zambian boxer, Hastngs Bwalya beat his opponent, Silas Mandeya from Zimbabwe.
And African boxing Union Bantamweight Champion Kennedy Kanyanta of Zambia also beat his opponent, South African Zolile Mbityi, becoming International Boxing Organization (IBO)'s Super Flyweight Champion.
