MELBOURNE, Australia, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Britain's Andy Murray defeated Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-1 6-1 6-2 in Saturday's third round match to sweep into the last 16 of the Australian Open.
Earlier before the match, Garcia-Lopez, seeded 32nd, warned Murray he would "give him nothing", but the exact opposite transpired as Garcia-Lopez committed 31 unforced errors, and he failed to hold serve until the latter stages of the second set.
The fifth seed Murray, beaten by Roger Federer in last year's Australian Open final, dominated from the off against the Spaniard and claimed the opener 6-1 in just 24 minutes.
Murray then completed the rout with a viciously whipped forehand into the corner after just one hour and 22 minutes.
"I played very well," Murray told reporters in Melbourne on Saturday. "It's very difficult to concentrate for a long period of time in this heat and that was what I was able to do."
