THE HAGUE, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- PSV striker Jonathan Reis is out for the remainder of the season after suffering a serious knee injury against Roda JC on Sunday.
A MRI scan revealed on Monday that the Brazilian tore cruciate ligaments in his right knee and will undergo surgery. He got injured after a collision with Roda JC goalkeeper Przemyslaw Tyton and was carried off on a stretcher in the 17th minute.
"The only positive thing is that the cartilage is not too damaged," PSV doctor Tjaarda Weber declared.
"And that he still is only 21, but this is a serious injury. Jonathan has a long road ahead of him. He will undergo surgery, after the rest period of 14 days in plaster. After that a long recovery period will follow with lots of difficulties on the way."
Reis scored eight goals in eleven league matches this season for PSV. His absence is a major blow for the Dutch league leaders.
They will also miss captain Ibrahim Afellay, who is expected to
finalize his move to FC Barcelona later this week, after the winter break.
