RIO DE JANEIRO, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Corinthians' star striker Ronaldo was vetoed on Tuesday from playing in the team's penultimate match against Vasco da Gama on November 28.
After a thorough exam of his upper right thigh, the striker's injury proved to be worse than initially thought.
During Corinthians' 1-1 draw against Vitoria last Sunday, Ronaldo fell to the ground in the 27th minute, complaining of a sharp pain in his thigh.
After receiving an ultrasound to determine the degree and seriousness of the injury, the team's medical staff said that Ronaldo will be unable to recuperate from the injury in time for Sunday's match.
Team physical therapist Bruno Mazziotti said he will place Ronaldo on an intensive program in order to recuperate in time to play in this year's last game against Goias on December 5.
Ronaldo promised that he will be on hand to give his support to the team. Corinthians currently stands in second place with 64 points, just one point behind leader Fluminense.
Only two rounds of play remain in this year's Brazilian Championship to determine the winner of the running-point tournament.
