MADRID, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto has been handed a two-game ban for unsporting behaviour by the governing body of European football UEFA for his action in Barcelona's Champions League tie at home to Copenhagen 10 days ago.
Pinto, who was playing because first choice keeper Victor Valdes was suffering from a stomach bug, stopped a counter-attack by the Danish side by whistling loudly.
The keeper's whistle fooled Copenhagen striker Cesar Santin into thinking the referee had blown for offside and he stopped his run, allowing Barca to clear the danger in a game they ended up winning 2-0.
His action provoked Copenhagen coach Stale Solbakken to call Pinto a cheat and television replays clearly showed the keeper stopping the attack in his unconventional, according to UEFA, illegal manner.
Pinto will now be unavailable for Barcelona's next two Champions League matches, which are away to Copenhagen and away to Greek side Panathinaikos.
Meanwhile Valdes has long recovered from his virus and barring accident will play in goal for those matches.
