MADRID, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Athletic Club Blibao striker Ibai Gomez will be out of action for two months after he had a debut to forget on Sunday night.
The 21-year-old, who joined Athletic from nearby lower league side Sestao River over the summer, made his first team debut as a 67th minute substitute for Gaizka Toquero as Athletic defeated Zaragoza 2-1.
Sadly his debut lasted less than four minutes as the striker, who has scored four goals for Athletic's B team this season, fell awkwardly and hurt his left knee.
He was carried off the pitch in the 71st minute of the game covering his eyes in agony.
The club announced that Ibai would have tests to discover the full extent of the injury this Monday once the swelling around the knee had died down.
Those tests have brought mixed news for the striker, ruling out any possible fracture or broken ligament, which would have brought his season to a premature end, but confirming that he has suffered a "dislocation".
Although the club website confirmed that Athletic's medical staff will decide the kind of treatment Ibai needs in the coming days, everything points to him being out of action for a period of between six weeks and two months.
Meanwhile the club has also said that injured trio of Fernando Amorebieta, David Lopez and Iigo Perez are all improving from the respective injuries which kept them out of action at the weekend.
