MADRID, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Disciplinary Committee decided to suspend Atletico Madrid defender Tomas Ujfalusi for two matches on Tuesday for his challenge on Barcelona striker Leo Messi.
Messi will be out of action for an estimated two weeks following the 91st minute challenge from the Czech born defender. Ujfalusi's challenge was late and he caught the Barcelona player on his ankle with his studs.
Messi was carried out of the game on a stretcher, while Ujfalusi was shown a direct red card by match referee Fernandez Borbalan.
The Disciplinary Committee opted to consider the tackle to be dangerous play rather than violent conduct, which would have carried a sanction of at least four matches.
The defender will now miss his side's games away to Valencia on Wednesday and at home to Zaragoza next weekend.
Atletico Madrid said they would not appeal against the ban.
