MADRID, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Angel di Maria said Monday that he is pleased with the progress he has made since signing for Real Madrid this summer.
The Argentine international was the first of Real Madrid's six summer signings to put pen to paper, but his first goal only arrived during his side's 3-1 win in Sunday's friendly game against newly promoted Hercules.
Speaking in Monday's edition of sports paper Diario AS, the winger said the goal was a sign of the progress he was making.
"The important thing is to improve day by day and we are doing that. I think that the coach, Jose Mourinho, is satisfied," said Di Maria, who was signed from Portuguese club Benfica.
"On a personal level I am very happy to have scored my first goal. My family were watching from Argentina and they called me to congratulate me. I hope that is just the first and that more goal will arrive: I am certain they will do," he said.
He then looked ahead to the first game of the new BBVA Primera Liga season, which sees Real Madrid travel to play Mallorca on Sunday night.
"There is less than a week to go and we are all working flat out to be 100 percent ready. The team is improving every day and I am certain that this squad is going to get good results," he said, ending with words of praise for Mourinho.
"He gets the best out of us, so we have to be optimistic about the start of the season," said Di Maria.
