RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Sao Paulo soccer team announced on Monday Sergio Baresi as their new head coach.
Baresi is already a member of the club's organization, having coached the juniors team.
The club admitted that they were interested in other names, but there was little availability in the market. For the reason, 37-year-old Baresi will assume command temporarily.
Baresi led the Sao Paulo juniors soccer team to win the Sao Paulo Cup in January 2010. He previously coached the juniors teams of Santo Andre and Sao Caetano before arriving at Sao Paulo in 2008.
The interim head coach now prepares the team for their upcoming match against Cruzeiro on August 15 in the 14th round of the Brazilian Championship.
If Baresi is able to produce an immediate and positive result at Sao Paulo, the first-time coach of a professional soccer team may earn himself a permanent job.
