SANTIAGO, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Chilean President Sebastian Pinera congratulated Sunday the national soccer team on their performance at the World Cup in South Africa and wished them good luck in the second round match against Brazil.

"I want to thank and congratulate the Chilean national soccer team, not only for the triumphs, the achievements and having got the ticket for the second round, but over all, for the commitment, the giving and the love for the T-shirt, which have showed all and everyone of our players," Pinera said during a public event in Valparaiso city.

Pinera also "wished them, of course, the best luck on Monday during the match with Brazil."

Chile, who are playing their first World Cup finals in 12 years, advanced to the knock-out stage after earning 1-0 victory over both Honduras and Switzerland and losing 2-1 to Spain.
