BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Stephen Strasburg stunned everyone by striking out 14 batters in his Major League Baseball debut in Washington.

The Washington Nationals phenom put on a dazzling performance of pitching power Tuesday night in a 5-2 win over Pittsburgh.

The 21-year-old right-hander worked seven innings in the Nationals' victory over the Pirates. He went to a three-ball count three times.

His fastballs reached 100 mph, and the Pirates found his nasty curves nearly impossible to hit.

This is his first start for the Nationals, and he set the franchise record for most strikeouts in a game.
