NEW YORK, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas will be suspended for the rest of the NBA season, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday.
Arenas pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge for having weapons in the team locker room in January and had been suspended indefinitely since the incident.
Arenas met with NBA commissioner David Stern on Wednesday and had asked Stern to have his suspension run for the rest of the season, according to the Post on its website.
The newspaper said unnamed sources told them that Stern planned to abide by the request. Stern was expected to announced his ruling later Wednesday.
Arenas's meeting with Stern came almost two weeks after Arenas pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge. He faces sentencing in March.
The charge stemmed from a locker room dispute between Arenas and teammate Javaris Crittenton at the Wizards' arena in December in which several guns were displayed.
League rules ban players from bringing firearms to league and team facilities.
Crittenton also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge this week and was sentenced to a year of unsupervised probation.
