The player named Xavier Guzman plays for Emelec and he returned positive tests after the match between Deportivo Quito and Emelec on March 25, FEF said.
Guzman stayed on the bench throughout the game then but still was tested.
Emelec said that it would be unnecessary to analyze sample B because Guzman had admitted his fault.
The Discipline Commission from the Federation will meet on Tuesday to decide what sanction Guzman should be given.
According to FEF member Luis Plua, Guzman is likely to be suspended for two years as it is suggested by the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) for this kind of offense.
The last positive case in the league was on Oct. 24, 2008 when Miller Bolanos from club Bracelona Guayaquileno tested positive for cocaine and thus incurred a six-month suspension.
