BEIJING, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- China Siyuan Foundation for Poverty Alleviation on Monday said it had spent over 250 million yuan (about 37 million U.S. dollars) to fight poverty in 2018.
The foundation was established by the Central Committee of China National Democratic Construction Association in 2007, to prompt enterprise engagement in poverty relief and other charity projects.
Around 2 million people benefited from a number of public welfare programs under the foundation last year, ranging from those in medical care and education to industry support in rural areas, it said.
"Over the past year, we have donated 939 ambulances, basically achieving our goal of donating at least one ambulance to every township-level hospital in the country's five ethnic minority autonomous regions," said Li Xiaolin, secretary-general of the foundation.
The foundation plans to spend 265 million yuan to advance its role in poverty alleviation in 2019.
