BEIJING, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese mainland's Taiwan affairs chief Thursday called on Taiwan compatriots to join the mainland to pursue national reunification and rejuvenation.
Liu Jieyi, head of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks at an activity held by the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the Mainland in Beijing.
"The peaceful development of cross-Strait ties and peaceful reunification of the motherland are in the best interest of the Chinese nation and Taiwan compatriots," Liu said. "Taiwan compatriots should act in conformity with the trend of history, and work hard together to seek national reunification and rejuvenation."
Calling the "one country, two systems" principle the best arrangement for national reunification, Liu called on Taiwan compatriots to actively contribute their ideas in exploring Taiwan plan on the "two systems."
Liu promised to continue to do solid work and solve problems for Taiwan compatriots, and expressed the hope that Taiwan compatriots would join the mainland to promote cross-Strait integrated development and make contributions to the peaceful reunification of the motherland.
