BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Top political advisor Wang Yang met with a delegation of representatives of Taiwan public opinion led by Yao Eng-chi on Tuesday in Beijing.
Wang, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said political advisors on the mainland and representatives of Taiwan public opinion have played a positive role in boosting understanding and advancing cross-Strait cooperation and exchanges for many years.
Stressing that the mainland's major policies and guidelines toward Taiwan are clear-cut, consistent and stable, Wang said the mainland will not change its policy and concept to promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and boost cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation.
He said the mainland will not waver in its firm will to deter "Taiwan independence" attempts.
Wang said he hoped to continuously deepen exchanges between political advisors and representatives of Taiwan public opinion and inspire more new forces to cement the foundation of public opinion for the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
