SHIJIAZHUANG, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua has called for better inspection of poverty-relief work to win the war on extreme poverty.
Hu, head of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, made the call during a three-day inspection of north China's Hebei Province, which ended Tuesday.
Hu said local authorities should regularly inspect poverty-relief work and press ahead with measures to make poverty-relief efforts more effective.
China had 30.46 million people categorized as poor at the end of 2017. The government is aiming to eradicate absolute poverty by 2020.
"China is in its final push to fight extreme poverty," Hu said,
He called on officials to enforce annual work plans, do more to motivate and help poor families, deal with undesirable work ethics, and crack down on poverty-relief corruption.
During his inspection, the vice premier went to the homes of poor villagers, held workshops with local officials, and inspected rural cooperatives and enterprises.
