NANCHANG, May 20 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese senior official has urged united front departments to make more efforts in poverty alleviation in old revolutionary base areas.
Sun Chunlan, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during an inspection tour in east China's Jiangxi Province from Thursday to Saturday.
Old revolutionary base areas had suffered heavy losses and contributed greatly to the victory of the Chinese revolution, but they still face arduous tasks of poverty alleviation, Sun said.
She called on business people from the non-public sector to be active in lifting impoverished villages out of poverty and helping develop certain industries, together with the efforts of the government.
China is aiming to build a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way by 2020. It is a solemn commitment made by the central authorities to the Chinese people, the official said.
