SHANGHAI, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leader Liu Yunshan stressed retaining college teachers and students' confidence in Chinese culture and values, during an inspection tour to universities and villages in Shanghai from Sunday to Monday.
Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, talked with teachers and students on Marxism learning, ideological education and Party building when visiting Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Fudan University, according to an official statement on Tuesday.
Liu emphasized that universities must adhere to socialist orientation, strengthen and improve the Party's leadership. Universities must cultivate competent and reliable future generations who are both politically sound and professionally competent, excelling in both morals and technical skills.
He asked ideological educators to use Marxist theory, China's culture, and modern-day practices in socialism with Chinese characteristics to harden the faith of teachers and students in China's unique path, theories and systems.
During a visit to two villages in Shanghai's Chongming county, Liu learned about local people's lives, public education on ideology and ethics.
Liu stressed passing on traditional ethics, valuing families' roles in moral education and raising people's awareness of sound morality.
Also during the tour, Liu stressed daily education, management of Party members and solving the problems that the public complain about most.
