BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- A symposium was held Friday in Beijing to mark what would have been the 100th birthday of late Chinese scientist Lu Jiaxi.
Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended the symposium.
Lu Jiaxi, born in 1915, was a prominent scientist, educator and social activist. He was also vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the eighth National People's Congress, vice-chairman of the seventh and ninth National Committees of the CPPCC, as well as chairman of the China Peasants and Workers Democratic Party.
Sun Chunlan, head of the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, praised Lu's contributions to revitalizing China and urged the public to learn from him.
