BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) has promised punishment for law enforcers who use illegal means like extracting confessions through torture while investigating dereliction of duty cases.
Law enforcers acting without authorization are prohibited from using coercive measures to restrict personal liberty, the SPP said on Thursday.
It warned law enforcers against using illegal means to put suspects under residential surveillance, or illegally sealing, seizing or freezing assets.
Law enforcers are strictly forbidden from obstructing suspects from seeing their lawyers, while video and audio recording is mandatory for the full length of an interrogation, the SPP said.
