BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua) -- China is prepared to strengthen exchange and cooperation with the new British government, following Prime Minister David Cameron's victory in last week's general election, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Monday.
Cameron has formed his first all-Conservative cabinet, the Conservative Party having secured the first Conservative majority in parliament since 1997.
China and Britain are both countries with great influence. Enhancing friendly cooperation is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples as well as world stability and prosperity, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said.
"China is ready to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the new British government for the development of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership," she said.
