BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- China's national political advisors called for greater efforts to promote the transformation of government functions at a biweekly symposium on Tuesday.
Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, presided over the symposium and exchanged views with the advisors.
According to a document issued after the meeting, the political advisors agreed the transformation requires long-term and arduous work and problems such as abuse of administrative discretion and insufficient transparency still exist.
Also, the participants urged to better handle the relation between the government and the market.
They called on the government to clarify their functions in accordance with law, and to carry out their work following legal procedures and methods.
They also demanded greater transparency regarding government work as well as better supervision from the political advisory bodies over the power.
