BEIJING, April 14 (Xinhua)-- China on Monday expressed its wishes that the upcoming multilateral talks on the Ukraine crisis will be a success.
"We have noticed that Russia, the United States, the European Union and Ukraine are preparing for talks in the near future, which is in tune with the China-proposed direction. We wish it a success," Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a joint press briefing with visiting German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The four parties will hold a meeting in Geneva on April 17 as part of diplomatic efforts to tackle the Ukraine crisis.
Wang said China's stance on Ukraine has always been objective, fair and responsible, stressing that the development of the Ukraine issue has complicated historical origins and practical factors.
"A political solution is the only way out," Wang said, recalling China's three-point proposal at the start of the crisis, including early establishment of an international coordination mechanism, a political solution and no flare-up actions.
"China will continue to promote peace and negotiations and play a constructive role," Wang said.
