BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong on Friday met with Sir Paul Nurse, President of the Royal Society, Britain's national academy of sciences.
Liu spoke highly of the efforts made by the Royal Society to intensify exchange and cooperation with the Chinese scientific community, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), in past decades.
She briefed Nurse about the establishment of a high-level consultation mechanism for people-to-people exchanges between China and Britain, expressing hope that the Royal Society would enhance exchange with the Chinese scientific community and further explore areas of cooperation.
Nurse, who was here for the first official visit to China since he took office in 2010, signed a joint statement on promoting scientific and technological cooperation with the CAS.
