BEIJING, June 20 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman on Thursday urged the international community to continue to offer assistance for the reconciliation process in Afghanistan.
"China maintains that the international community, on the basis of respecting Afghanistan's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, should provide necessary assistance for the reconciliation process," spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a daily press briefing.
Hua's comments came after the Afghan government on Wednesday announced that it has suspended talks with the United States on a proposed security agreement, saying the United States has a contradictory stance regarding the peace process in Afghanistan.
Hua said China has always supported a reconciliation process that is owned and led by Afghans.
Hua also called for international efforts to help realize the goal of an Afghanistan ruled by the Afghans.
