BEIJING, April 20 (Xinhua) -- China's food safety and educational authorities Friday vowed to increase supervision over school cafeterias following several instances of food poisoning.
In a document jointly issued by the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) and the Ministry of Education, food safety authorities pledged to improve daily inspections of school canteens and catering companies employed by schools.
Those that fail to meet food safety standards will be demanded to rectify the situation and make a corresponding report to relevant educational authorities. If they fail to correct their wrongdoings, they will have their operations suspended, the document said.
A credit reference system for school canteens and catering enterprises will be established and will allow for public consultation, it said.
Teachers, students and their families are welcome to supervise the canteens, it added.
