This event has also been a top issue discussed by Chinese netizens on the Internet.
Learning that Dai summoned the Japanese ambassador, an anonymous netizen said "I support the government's move to safeguard the dignity of the homeland."
"A country's core interest can not be encroached on," commented another netizen, referring to China's sovereignty over Diaoyu Islands.
Most netizens called for the release of the Chinese fishermen and boat and expressed their support to further moves.
"Our captain and our boat, the homeland and the people are the strong supporters behind you," said a netizen, who also said on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, the family of Zhan is looking forward to the return of the captain, Chinese media reported.
"When my son will come back home?" Zhan's mother asked reporters time and again on Saturday, with tears in her eyes.
Zhan's grandmother fell over herself and got injured one week before the issue. The 85-year-old woman died on Wednesday after hearing the news that Zhan was captured by the Japanese authorities.
"The old woman's situation worsened (and died) after hearing the news," said Zhan's aunt Zheng Feng.
Zhan's wife, whose family name is Chen, said she is looking forward to an early and safe return of her husband, thus he can have a chance to attend his grandmother's funeral.
